True

Every GOTR program participant is strongly encouraged to have a 5K Buddy for the event. A 5K Buddy ensures each participant’s safety and provides encouraging support throughout the 5K.

5K Buddies must be 16 or older and may be a family member, caregiver, teacher, coach or another trusted person. 5K Buddies do not need to be runners but should be able to complete the 5K (3.1 miles). There is a 5K training program included with your 5K registration for walking, running, or a bit of both! All 5K Buddies must register for the event.

Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring appropriate supervision for each participant before, during, and after the 5K.

Don't worry! We have special volunteers who sign up to serve as 5K Buddies and Sparkle Runners with teams during the 5K. Please let your Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole coach know as soon as possible if you’d like your child to be matched up with a 5K Buddy.

5K Buddies, family/friends and community runners/walkers will be able to pick up their race bib, and other 5K goodies either at a Packet Pick-Up location prior to 5K day, or on-site on 5K day. You may pick up supplies/bibs for other people.

Here’s the Packet Pick-Up schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 4 from 5-7pm. Brooklyn Bros. Pizza, Mill Creek Town Center. (We are also hosting a Dine Out for a Cause from 3-8pm at the restaurant.)
  • Thursday, June 6 from 3-5pm at First Citizens Bank, 2600 162nd St SW, Lynnwood, WA 98087
  • Saturday, June 8 from 10am-1pm, GOTRSnoCo Office, 6505 218th st SW, Suite #14, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 (We will also have GOTR Merch available)
  • On-site at the 5K event* on Sunday, June 9 from 7:30-8:45am

*If you are registering or picking up your 5K bib on 5K day, be sure to arrive early (7:30-8:15am) to ensure you are registered and have your bib prior to the 5K start time. Registrations will not be permitted after 8:45am on 5K day.

**Girls on the Run participants will receive thier 5K bibs from their coaches in the Team Zone.

On 5K day, GOTR participants should wear their pink program t-shirts, athletic clothing, and running shoes. Pin your race bib on the front of your shirt. Tutus, capes, and fun accessories are welcome!

Dress for the weather! The 5K will be held rain or shine. If it’s cold, consider wearing gloves, a hat, and a jacket. If it’s raining, bring a raincoat or poncho that you can run in. If it’s warm, wear breathable clothing.

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

We strongly encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long! It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!
